Satisfy your sweet tooth safely
In March 2020, Québec’s sugar shacks were getting ready to kick off yet another fantastic sugar season. The maple syrup was flowing like water. The tables were set, and the fridges were crammed to bursting. And the rest is history: COVID-19 had other plans for us. For sugar shack owners, the cancelled season meant the loss of up to 95% of their annual income. When the next year rolled around, they were good and ready to find a way to keep this tradition alive. The sugar shacks that have joined this initiative are determined to satisfy your sweet tooth in the comfort and safety of your own home. Rest assured that the artisans who create your “home sweet home” kit are fully committed to following the health guidelines in effect—to the letter.
Here’s an overview of what’s been put in place to make sure you’re safe:
- Online payment
- Touchless in-car pickup with sugar-shack pickup
- Optional pickup at a Metro grocery store near you to avoid travelling from one region to another
- Face masking and frequent handwashing by all workers at participating sugar shacks
“Everyone at the participating sugar shacks, including me, hopes that our home-sweet-home kits will be a comfort and source of happiness. We can hardly wait to welcome you back. Until then, take care of yourself and feast with your families!” Stéphanie Laurin, Chair of the Association of Québec Sugar Shacks and co-owner of Chalet des érables
